To create a sense of cohesiveness, both crown molding and wainscot wrap the room. The wainscot material changes in different parts of the room — beaded board creates a backdrop for the lounge, tile serves as a backsplash for the countertops, and cork is used for a built-in bulletin board.

Instead of searching for furniture to fit this area in the kitchen, we designed a banquette to maximize seating and used a local upholster to create tailored cushions.
