On May 26th, Peter Margittai was invited by East Liberty Development, Inc. to participate in a design charette for that organization’s Prototype House.
The goal of the charette was for a group of local architects to generate ideas for a prototype house that would fit into a typical neighborhood lot, was sensitive to the context of the area, and incorporated Green Design. The group also explored plan layouts and site relationships.
The topic of urban infill housing is not new to Peter. For the past two years, he has worked independently on designs for a prototype urban infill house that would be an alternative solution for homeowners interested in living in new homes in the city.
“My goal is to present an affordable option for those looking for a new, contemporary and environmentally sensitive home in the city,” Peter explained. “This charette presented an opportunity to share some of those ideas with a local organization doing great work in East Liberty.”
Currently, most home buyers who want to purchase new construction in the city, must do so through new, planned developments. Peter’s urban infill home is designed to be built on an empty lot in an existing neighborhoods.
“Right now this is the project I design late at night or I think about while I’m walking to work,” said Peter. “My ultimate goal is to find a home buyer who wants to realize this project along with me.”
