Peter Margittai was featured in “For the Love of Main Streets,” an article focused on the growing trend of people choosing to live in sustainable communities — those with main streets featuring amenities within walking distance.
Peter and his wife Michele raise their two young children in the South Side of Pittsburgh, where Peter’s architecture firm is also located. South Side features East Carson Street, one of only a handful of main streets that have won the Great American Main Street Award.
In the article, Peter explained his attraction to his neighborhood. “As an architect,” explained Peter, “What’s inspiring about the Southside is not so much the architecture...it’s the collective of the housing that’s really exciting. The density of the housing. Like Louis Kahn said the street is the extension of the houses.”
The article, written by Tracy Certo, was published in the August 23rd edition of Pop City, a weekly e-magazine and Web site showcasing the positive and sustained transformation of the Pittsburgh region. To read the article in its entirety, go to www.popcitymedia.com, and click on “Features”.
