July/August 2005
In June 2005, Peter Margittai participated in a roundtable discussion with other architects about the pros and cons of starting an architecture practice. His comments were featured in the July/August 2005 issue of Columns magazine.
Facilitated by Anne J. Swager, Hon. AIA and Executive Director of AIA Pittsburgh, the panelists discussed their reasons for starting their practices, lessons they had learned, and benefits and liabilities of owning their own businesses.
Margittai, who started his firm in February of 2001, was the youngest member of the panel. Inspired by the experiences of his father, who had started his own mechanical engineering practice as a young man, Peter had always wanted to work through his own firm.
Peter explained that, “For me, the best part is working closely with my clients. The resulting friendships that develop are an added benefit.”
