Renovations are currently underway at 2110 Sarah Street – the future offices of Peter Margittai, Architect. The building, which was purchased by Peter and his wife Michele in late 2006, will provide offices for Peter’s growing architectural design firm starting in May 2007. It will also provide office space for Terra Design Studios (Landscape Architects) and a residential loft rental unit.
The 3,400 square foot structure was originally built in the late 19th century, and once housed a welding shop. Located on a tree-lined street, just one block away from East Carson Street, the building sits below South Side’s famous Duquesne Brewery Clock and across the street from the Morning Glory Inn.
“The location is great for us,” Peter said. “Though our friends have joked that my commute will be doubled.” (Peter currently walks three blocks to work. The new office is 7 blocks away from his home.)
For the design, Peter is relying on the “less is more” approach. Contractors are removing the dropped ceilings, exposing the concrete block walls, staining the cement floors, and adding a large storefront window. The 2,000 square foot office space will also feature skylights, custom cabinetry, and a large, second floor library and conference room.
“It’s been a dream to renovate my own building,” said Peter. “This has been a tremendous experience.”
